Measures on achieve the Food Security Strategy

Today, ensuring food security in the Republic of Tajikistan is one of the priority

strategic goals, and many measures had been taken to reach the agreement that promotes the improvement of the living condition of the population. According to statistical data, over 854 million people worldwide suffer from hunger and nutritional deficiencies, which require a lot of effort by donors. According to specialists, food security will fully provide in the case of food production in the country will meet the needs of the population, with 20 percent available for storage. Progress in agricultural production is also an important factor in the food security of each country. For this purpose, issues of land use and improvement of melioration condition and its productivity, fruits and vegetables export are among the primary tasks, which is consider the responsibility of the relevant ministries and agencies. The agriculture sector is the leading sector of Tajikistan’s economy, providing an average of 20-21% of GDP. Effective use of existing capacities and measures has contributed to the fact that in 2018 according to the Statistical Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, until 1st January of 2019 in all types of farms production of cereals reached to 1295677 tons, cotton 300359 tons, 964635 tons of potatoes, 2119396 tons of vegetables, crop 641738 tons, 447731 tons of fruits, 241790 tons of grapes, 261927 tons of meat, 983053 tons of milk, 7639 tons of wool, 4182 tons of honey, 2082 tons of fish and 450 thousand tons of eggs, which in compare with the same period of last year is more than from 1,4% to 31,9%. Providing food security is directed to development and implementation of economic, organizational and other measures, primarily based on the domestic production of foodstuffs based on acceptable scientific standards for the protection of population requirements and prevention of food crisis.
